Background


There are a lot of sampled pianos. Most of them are grand pianos that are tuned and recorded

in a way that is standard in the world of recording. But what about all the wonderful

recordings made in studios using Uprights? Could I reproduce that character in a functionally

useful sample piano? It would have to be perfectly “in tune” and yet retain the natural detuned

personality of a typical studio Upright.

Steinberg Cubase v5.1.2 UPDATE READNFO-AiR

Yesterday  we released Steinberg Cubase v5.1.1.UPDATE. Unfortunately this

release contained a major bug  on startup in both  the StudioManager and


also  with VST3 plug-ins on some Windows Vista/Seven operating systems….



This issue was not a result of our crack!!!

It’s a classic example of the poor betatesting team steinberg has :(

The official comment from Steinberg:

“… bug in a version of  the Intel compiler


used for creating  the plug-in Set … “

Steinberg silently renewed their existing update and left a message in  the

cubase forum without promptly informing all customers about the problem and

the re-issued update.

If a case could  be made for Steinberg  to introduce a public  beta testing


policy this would  be a prime  example of it’s  validity, if such  a policy

were  introduced  these  errors  and, most  likely  many  others,  would be


captured prior to release.

Enjoy this fixed  update, use it alongside our eLicenser  emulator, to fix

these urgent problems.

Lemonstrum 3 is quite different from most acoustic guitar strummers. Unlike previous versions, this one is primarily a chord sample player. Each of the 12 keys on the keyboard (A-G#) triggers the chord you assign to it. You can load up to three samples (different strokes) of the same chord for each trigger, which Lemonstrum will then play alternately whenever you press the key. A light press will play a scratch effect. It is pre-loaded with power chords or “fifths,” which blend well with both major and minor chords. You can also mic your own guitar and record three downstrokes of the chord that you want and load them into Lemonstrum 3.




Scenario 1: Using the default Power Chords

To get started, try pressing middle C three times. You will hear a strumming of the chord C.

Now if you want to change the chord that middle C plays, go to “custom samples,” select C from the trigger drop-down list, then load new samples of the chord that you want (WAV format).

Scenario 2: Creating custom samples

So you’ve got this nice-sounding guitar, but it’s hard to track (and hard to quantize) especially when you’re in a hurry to get a project or a demo finished. You can use your guitar with Lemonstrum 3.

All you have to do is record three different strokes of each chord that you need. For example, you need a CM7. Record 3 downstrokes of CM7 with your real guitar and save them to your hard drive as CM7-1.wav, CM7-2.wav, and CM7-3.wav.

Now in Lemonstrum 3, go to “custom samples,” then select a trigger from the drop-down list. Say, you want to press the key D on your keyboard to play your CM7 chords. Select D from the trigger list then load your 3 wav files below. Pressing D on your keyboard will now play your custom chord CM7.

Harmless is an additive synthesizer doing subtractive synthesis. Or if you prefer, a subtractive synthesizer powered by an additive synthesis engine. You may ask: why? For several reasons. To begin with, there are too many subtractive synthesizers already, often bragging about being virtual analog. This one is digital, and proud to be. Everything is fake, the tone generator, th filter & its resonance, the phaser, all performed on the harmonics, before partials are computed. Now, how it’s synthesized shouldn’t matter after all, if the result sounds subtractive. But Harmless is more than a proof of concept, it allows fine control that wouldn’t be possible through classic subtractive synthesis. Filtering and phasing can be assigned unusual shapes & slopes, something normally only possible through offline digital filters. Filter slopes can even be defined in Hz instead of octaves. Finally, you get control on each partial’s frequency, creating timbres definitely impossible using common synthesis methods.

Harmless, for less harmonics

Again, Harmless is additive doing subtractive. Harmonics are not produced to be filtered, the timbre is filtered before being generated. This may sound like a detail, but generating sounds this way offers a lot more advantages than drawbacks.

Not necessarily less efficient

Powered by a highly optimized, multithreaded additive engine, CPU usage is comparable to the one of traditional subtractive synthesizers, especially for low-passed timbres. Voices may be generating hundreds of harmonics in parallel and still not overload the CPU.

Because less is more

Harmless was limited by design. We don’t have any problem with complex synthesizers (we made several), but they’re not for everyone. Here, no tabs, no hidden controls, no multipoint envelopes, all features are visible at once, and color-grouped. Over 100 parameters, most of which being automatable, are laid over a clear GUI.

Harmless, only in appearance


Simpler to program, yet packed with evil features. Under the hood, you will find unique options, like linking the phaser’s output to partials frequencies. The LFO section can act as a special modulation source, linking the phaser’s width to the velocity, or the pitch to the filter’s envelope. Of course, Harmless also offers features typically unique to additive synthesis, like its automatable harmonic mask.

Harmless is also packed with effects, the usual chorus, delay & reverb, but also a multiband compressor/limiter powered by Maximus itself. It also inherited the powerful unison from Sytrus. In conclusion, our goal was to create a subtractive synthesizer with a unique twist, that also was easy to program, and we believe it succeeded.

NOTE: Harmless is some time Harmful and some DAW cannot recall Cutoff Frequency parameter. I think Image-Line will fix soon, as always. FLi was not tested. According to the WebSite, [The VSTi version doesn't seem to unlock yet. FL version works fine ] So we’ve only cracked a VSTi version of it.

This library for Kontakt features 24 bit samples recorded by Grammy award-winning engineer Tim Kimsey. On the DVD you will find a comprehensive set of patches for Solo Oboe, Solo English Horn and Oboe Section. The most important feature of this library is the Legato playing style. These patches contain not only expressive long notes, but also true legato interval samples that were recorded as the musicians played every note up and down from 1 half-step all the way up to a full octave. You don’t have to load any special tools to control them because the Legato effect is powered by Gigastudio’s iMIDI rules and Kontakt’s scripting engine.
